The Mount Pilchuck fire lookout hiking trail is one of the most challenging yet rewarding hikes in Washington state. Washington state is full of natural wonders including above-ground caves such as Lenore Lake Caves. Located in Central Washington near the Grand Coulee Dam and Dry Falls State Park, these are seven caves from prehistoric times.
Everyone knows the city of Seattle, but what do you know about Washington’s second-largest city, Spokane? A 4 to 5-hour drive away from the Emerald City, Spokane is just 18 miles west of the state of Idaho. Spokane can be visited as a day trip from Seattle, but to get the most of your time, we recommend spending at least a weekend there, which is what we did for Memorial Day weekend.
One of the most beautiful and accessible day hikes in Washington State is Eightmile Lake in the Central Cascades near Leavenworth. This was the destination for our annual 4th of July road trip, which involved camping overnight in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness.
The Charter Hotel is one of the newest boutique hotels in downtown Seattle. It opened in summer 2018 and is an independently operated property that is part of the Hilton’s Curio Collection. As summer quickly faded to fall, it felt like it was time for another weekend road trip to Olympia. You might recall last October when we drove the Thurston Bountiful Byway. Scroll down for our itinerary, along with photos and videos of our weekend trip!
When Martin and I first met, we had an idea for a travel-themed restaurant. In our minds, it would be a place that both inspired and satisfied wanderlust through decor, atmosphere, and good food and drink. It turns out that such a place already exists at Bar Vacilando.
When it comes to weekend escapes from Seattle, the Hood Canal is one of the best destinations. Just a couple hours west of Seattle, this is where many of the region’s shellfish come from. It’s also where the Olympic National Forest begins. Thus, it’s the perfect place for both the mountain and ocean dweller as you can get the best of both worlds. Tucked away in the Hood Canal is Alderbrook Resort, which offers all of the elements of the complete Northwest experience.
