Less Touristy Things to Do on Oahu, Hawaii
Hawaii is one of the most popular vacation destinations in the world. As such, some travelers think Hawaii is too touristy and over-crowded. While both of these observations are in many ways true, there are less touristy things to do in Hawaii. I grew up on Oahu and have experienced this island as both a child growing up and an adult returning home as a tourist. In truth, Oahu has changed and developed so much over the past several years that I barely know where to visit anymore.
My most recent trip to Oahu was a 9-day stay over the Christmas and New Year's holiday. I traveled with my husband, Martin, and we stayed with my parents in my childhood home in Kapolei. Our trip comprised of family visits and get-togethers, as well as our own exploration of Oahu with cameras in hand. Martin had his Fujifilm X-Pro2 (with new 4K video features!), and I had my Sony a6300 and Samsung Galaxy S8. Together, we made several videos about our trip to Hawaii.
We did quite a few different activities, but our videos focus mainly on:
These videos were edited separately based on what camera devices we used to film them. A list of the places we visit can be found below, along with a map. Note that most of these are (as a whole) generally "less touristy" places to visit, but Oahu is an island with limited space, so some could still interpret these locations as touristy.
